  • Six weeks in and finally writing!

While we have been officially on the road for six weeks now, it really has only been three weeks since we began the business end of this journey.  The first three weeks we spent visiting family and friends. From Kansas City and St. Joseph, Missouri, we spent a few days with friends and family in the Lincoln/Omaha, Nebraska area before heading to western Colorado to celebrate the life of Scott’s aunt Carol, who passed from brain cancer just a few days into our trip. We considered writing updates from the beginning, ...

  • Day 1 in Austin...briefly

We have had an interesting day, and we know why we were meant to come to Austin instead of Dallas this week. Tonight we will be attending Pecha Kucha Night, which is an event for artists, designers, and architechts. We're not sure what to expect exactly, but the fact that we are here during arts week and there happens to be an event that is tied to Scott's field is pretty serendipitous. Reason # 2: Whole Foods. I have been curious-ing about the whole WF buzz for a ...

  • Confessions of a Harried Packer and Another Change of Plans

If you look at all the dates of posts from the last month, I must first confess that, aside from today, they are all, well, fake. I posted them all today, June 21st, but I backdated them according to when the articles appeared in the newspaper I write for. See, with all the packing and planning and  craziness we have had going on this last month, I have not been able to sit down at the computer long enough to put coherent thoughts together in a string unless on deadline. ...

  • Saving Parents As Teachers (PAT) Everywhere

As appearing in the May 27th issue of the Ozarks Sentinel: Four months ago, the Missouri Congress slashed the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) funding. Included in the cuts were summer school programs, and the Parents As Teachers (PAT) program. There were no funds to even finish out the school year. People lost jobs on the spot, and the few positions that were retained came directly out of schools' pocketbooks. There was initially talk of reinstating summer school if the state's representatives could come up with a viable solution, but ...

Our Main Objective: »

We, Scott and Leslie Levy, along with our four children (ages 4 to 13), will be undertaking the road trip of a lifetime in the summer of 2010. We will be conducting a job hunt across the entire continental United States. Not only will we be looking for employment for either Scott or Leslie, we will be reporting about job prospects we find in general, and passing along that information here, on the Job Hunt Across America website. Here we will tell you--town by town, state by state, from rural to urban America--what you could expect if you moved there: real information from people who actually live there now. We will be conducting interviews with fellow unemployed Americans, employers (both small business owners and corporate HR departments), local media (from newspapers to radio talk [Read More]

Tourist Trap

Calling all cavers! »

Our little corner of the Ozarks is full of caves, and over the seven years we have lived in the area, visiting caves is one of our favorite things to do as a family. Our daughter is not afraid of bats or salamanders, and our four-year-old (well, almost--he will be when we [Read More]

Job Hunt

We settled, so I left–for India.

Yes, the real India. Half a world away. After choosing to let go of the blog while we were on the road for a variety of reasons (internet inconvenience, privacy with our kids, etc.), we finally settled in Petaluma, CA in late January.  It took a week for us to find our church home, and another three months for Scott to find full time [...]
